Here is the completed project.
However the small section of timber retaining the lid did not have have enough glue area to retain the mass of the lid and partedfrom the box frame.
So I am in the process of resesigning the lid maybe remove the handle and drill finger pulls and allow the lid to slide completly out. Then install rare earth magnets to hold it closed. The dominos are the ebony ones I made some time ago and on the photo gallery somewhere

Steve,

Thanks for your comments,

Inlay work is no real big deal once you get into it.

The strips you saw  are the result of 3 days of rain and me wondering what to do, so commenced the path to discovering how to make and fit inlays commenced.

All they are is initally two strips if timber of contrasting colours.

Cut them into short lengths about 30 to 50mm, turn then sideways and sandwich them between two more pieces and glue them all up, a bit fiddly but what else can you do when its raining.

Once the glue has dryed saw of the excess on the sides and then carefully saw them into narrow strips.

You may wish to have a look on the net ,there should be some good info there,  or I know a visit to Woodsmiths website and look in the additional online info will provide more info and pictures.

Regards
