well today, I went and got the natural stain and used that on the base and on the stools. I am very happy with the way it turned out. The grain is beautiful and I just am so happy. I will post updated pictures tomorrow when I get a chance to take them...thanks everyone!
Anthony , I agree with everyone else , I would have a hard time painting the oak , maybe a golden oak stain and a coat of clear poly , you have done a great job with the design and the way the grain runs , thanks for sharing JIM
Anthony, You could cover the oak table with a food safe oil just in case you have little ones that get a little messy at dinner time. Or a clear poly would do the table just too. I really like the light and dark contrast with the tabletop and the legs. I also like the pattern on the table and the seat on the chair. Thanks for sharing.
Anthony,
Very nice looking tops.
Attractive looking grain patterns.
I agree, I wouldn't paint oak.
yes, that is also what I was thinking. I was originally going to just poly it, then i saw some pictures online of off white or black bases that looked nice, but since I used oak, i feel it would be a crime to paint it :)
natural stain with poly sounds like a great idea
That's a really nice table and stool, I really like the way the tops look with a cherry stain on it. I would also have a hard time covering the rest of the oak with paint. One of my favorite combos is minwax natural stain with the wipe on poly. the natural stain just highlights the grain without changing the color too much.
Thanks David, I searched for tables around $600-800 and just couldn't find anything i liked..and what i found was poor construction quality at that price. So I decided to just build my own. I bought all of the wood, Kreg Jig, and Kreg screws one day, went home, cut all of the wood and started the project. I used oak so it was more expensive, but I wanted a very solid table that will withstand wear and tear. I am thoroughly impressed with the way it came out and now besides having a nice solid sturdy table made of pure hardwood...I have the pride factor as well :)
The stools did take a little longer to make, since I made 6.
I'm not sure what I am going to do with the legs of the table or stools yet..I'm thinking either antique white paint or black pain...but I am having a hard time covering up the beautiful oak wood
nice work

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
