My first attempt at a house name plate ,made from a oak scrap. Still got 2 more coats of poly to go before it gets fixed to the house.

Hi Ray,

Re letters with no spaces,

Rockler offers the ''State Park fonts'' templates---

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=31852&site=ROCKLER

they make for some attractive signage.

Quick and easy to route, using with a palm router.

They can also be hand carved out---place the templates into position,

use a marking pen or pencil to mark the outlines, and carve away.

Chip carving give the signs a nice personal touch.

Hi Mick on HILLVIEW,

Dremel tools are great---the rotary as well as the oscillating tools.

I've had their rotatory tools, since before they introduced the variable speed models.

Great for small size tasks.

And, the oscillating tool since shortly after it was introduced---this tool gets lots of use---sanding/grinding, as well as cutting.

Dremel tools have been some of the best tool investments I've made to date.

Very useful for unlimited tasks.

For making signs or plaques, I prefer to hand carve the letters/numbers and characters.

Just something I like about making wood chips.

Mick, did you make that sign for me? Haahaahaa. My last name is Hill you know....looks great. I'm going to have to break out my dremel and see if i can free-hand some things. I will have to get an adjustable base for the dremel though.

Micheal, that sign really looks good, What sort of template are you using, I seen you also used these letters on your troll bridge. I like the fact that the letters don't have spaces in them like the old templates do.
