Hi Andrew,

Yes, you are correct. Although my Home Depot did not have any 1x4's in cedar, so I ripped down some 1x6's.

I wanted my bench to be custom sized to my firepit. So it was important to me to get the radius of the curves matching my pit's. You might consider doing this to your firepit's dimensions for a custom fit.

To design the bench I drew a chalk outline on the flagstones in the shape/size I wanted. Then to determine the exact curve of the bench, I made a template over the chalk outline using 1/2" pvc and "T" fittings. Later, I used the curve of the pve pipe template to trace the radius cuts on the top's outer slats.

I started construction by making all 4 leg assemblies. I placed them evenly under the pvc template to get my approximate spacing for each section.

I built the center section's top first. This will serve as the template for all three sections. I cut 2 edge pieces that frame the slats. I placed the edge pieces on top of the two center legs (still spaced evenly under the pvc template) to measure each slat's length. I determined the angle on the slats with an angle guage. Then set the miter saw to that angle and cut all the slats (can't remember what the exact setting was on the miter saw). 

Once the middle section was completed, all I had to do is duplicate all the cuts for the 2 outer sections.

Next I cut and installed the 2x4 horizontal support pieces between the legs. Finally the whole thing was assembled!

I would also like the dimensions and angle's! Looks to be 2 x 4's on the under carriage and 1 x 4's on the decking and 2 x 2's as under supports?

Great bench, Kevin!  Looks like all 2by lumber except the legs.  Care to share dimensions and angle of cut?  THank you in advance...
