Hope Chest

Oak hope chest. I used the kreg jig to fasten the support piece under the hinge to the back and sides of the chest. The panel frames are stub mortise and tenon joinery and the panels are just 1/4" plywood. It was all scrap wood i got from work for free, and it was my first real attempt to build a hope chest. The stain job came out pretty bad. I used Minwax Polyshades and wont use that again on a project like this. Oh well, it was mostly free.

Your project look very good to me! If you are having problems with finishing your work, yopu might want to contact Jay Boutwell and /or Steve Kidd, and there are probalby many others that can help you to. Post a request for help with your finishing in the general wood working. and you will get as much good advice as you want or need.

You may not be happy with the finish, but I think it's gorgeous. I've had a lot of trouble with finishing  my projects, so there's several assembled but unusable pieces lying around because I'm afraid to ruin them :D

Yeah its really a shame that the finish didnt turn out very good, but it was my first attempt to build anything like this, and the construction part went great. I would definitely have been more upset if I spent a bunch of money on the materials, but since they were free, i wasnt too worked up about it. I could always strip it and start over.

Nice, I like the panel look and the tapered legs. Great build. I built a toy box a few years ago and was not happy with the stain, I believe it was Minwax Polyshades as well.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
