OMG a solution and right in front of my eyes.
after becoming thoroughly disolusioned with myself I decided to sit in the garden and drink beer.
There before me was a milk crate,a plastic cable drum, been there for years.
With a closer inspection it looked very close to the radius of my 9 x stave job that was driving me to drink.

After only 1 beer I decided to get the template, 2 x ratchet straps and some stock to increase the radius to my template to see if it would do the job.

Looked very close, well with a bit of malleting and squaring its glued again and clamped up stand by for a result !!
Amazing how the brain works when you walk away and drop the problem for a while then re think.

Credit for the straps method has to go to a suggestion from Jason Black, Thank you!!

Robert,

Nothing ''silly'' about ingenuity.

A fixture could be made, by cutting an arc, (a segment of a circle), from a section of 2x8xRL (random length) stock---

make two of these arced pieces, one for the top and one for the bottom of the frame.

(A 3rd arched member, centered between the top and bottom arched member, may be necessary, so as to provide rigidity in your clamping fixture).

Secure the arced pieces to the vertical member---make vertical members from 2x stock.

Select the quantity and spacing of the vertical members, to suit your desired fixture---

3 vertical members should suffice, for the size of the object you are making---one near each end and one centered.

Secure the vertical members to the arched members with suitable fasteners---deck screws or bolts.

Mark reference indicators on your fixture, use stop blocks or the like, so as to square up the staves, during assembly.

Place the staves onto the arced section and hold in place with your strap clamps.

(Sorry I don't have a drawing of this fixture, I've described).

Measure, cut, fit and assemble.

TIP:  make a model of a fixture, using cardboard, or the like, before proceeding with your final fixture.  Cut the cardboard to size---tape or glue the pieces in place.

(Duct tape and hot melt glue are handy tools).

Making a 3D model is very helpful, so as to visualize the end result, before cutting up valuable stock.

im of the mind it doesnt matter to much how you get there, just matters that you do get there.

Well as silly as it looks it does the job, again I have spent another day searching for a concave clamp, and again returned nil results.

Maybe there are items that shouldnt be made by hand these days, however if you dont try, I guess you will never learn.

Reminds me of staves my granddad made, for his brandy, wine, cider and water barrels.

He made several different types of furniture, using staves, that weren't not suitable for the barrels.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
