The K5 is my first Kreg Jig and I've read all the posts from the last two years and was still bewildered. I called support and my issue was straightened out in 30 seconds. Apparently the K3 and K4 jig's stop collars are set for material thickness whereas the K5 is set for screw length. It's in each manual but easy to overlook for a new user. Hopefully no one else will waste the time I did with this little detail. Anyways, thanks Kreg support.

From the K4 Manual

To get the right Pocket-Hole depth, you’ll have to

adjust the position of the collar on the drill bit. Place

your bit inside the Depth Setting Gauge on the Kreg

Jig®, with the step of the bit at the marking which

matches your workpiece thickness, as shown.

Thanks Rob.

That clears it up.

The Microjig manual  furthered my confusion where it says for 1/2"  material to:

"Set your Stop Collar for 5/8” material"

Where it should say:

(specific to the K5)

Set your Stop Collar for 3/4" screw.

Yes, this is a change with the K5.

The specification with the Micro and 5/8" stock can be a bit confusing. With stock that is truly 1/2" thick, you can use the "usual" setup: 1/2" jig setting and 1" screws. The manual specifies that with this setup, the pocket may not be deep enough for a plug if you wish to use one. In that case, as the manual says, set the jig to 5/8" and use a 3/4" screw. This is also an advisable setup with 1/2" plywood, since it is less than 1/2" thick.

Thanks for that Kreg Rep. I will try each of the scenarios and examine the results as soon as it gets above zero.
