Thanks for sharing. I've seen a similar idea that was the other way around. The jig with the blades mounted was held and the abrasives were glued in series on a piece of glass. Then you moved the blades over each grit in turn, no need to wrap a different paper around the block each time. I have not tried it yet though.

Personally, I'd prefer to sharpen the blades, with the abrasive sheet affixed to ''float glass''---

with the float glass on a solid foundation---

akin to sharpening my chisels and hand plane blades.

(ie, the float glass stationery and the sharpening tool/fixture movable).

For sharpening some object, knives and the like, I've bonded abrasive sheet to a 1/8 to 1/4'' thick steel platform.

On some sharpening tools, I have a leather strop, bonded to the back-side of the metal plate.

Sharpen/hone on one side, turn the plate over, and strop the tool on the back-side.

Works for me.
