I have an application where my Kreg pocket hole system will not work because I need to join to pieces of wood cut at a 45 degree angle - I do not want end grain showing. There are two ways I can accomplish this is either purchase a biscuit joiner (looking at the Porter-Cable 557) or a biscuit cutter set for my router.
Any thoughts? If the router can accomplish what I need then there is no reason to purchase another tool for tool sake and can apply the money somewhere else in my shop.
Thanks!

I do that quite often on picture frames. Just use a 5/32" slot cutter, that's the thickness of most biscuits. I think the H-9 biscuit is 1/8" though. That's more safely done on a router table, IMHO.
A biscuit jointed is a nice to have tool, if you have uses for it.
Inexpensive models are available for about $100.
A biscuit cutters set is about $50
includes bearings for biscuits size 0, 10 & 20.
I make biscuit joinery using
a. biscuit cutter in a router table, and
b. a biscuit joiner.
There are project pieces that will require a biscuit joiner, that are difficult to make on a router table---
such as, biscuits in the side walls of a larger piece, that is too big to handle on a router table.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
