Kreg Owners' Community

Hi all,

I am currently using my new Kreg Jig MS to join two whitewood 2x4's together. I watched the DVD / Manual on how to set up and use the jig, but I am running into this issue. Once the pocket / pilot hole is drilled, I insert the screw (using 2 1/2 Kreg screws, per owner's manual) and begin to drill. However, it seems the head of the screw is too big (or the pocket is too small) because the head of the screw snags onto the roof of the pocket.

Here is a picture of what I'm running into here http://imgur.com/Nt70uzf

Here is the whole album http://imgur.com/a/WMR2B I'm wondering if I should try and raise the collar anyway...

Does anyone have any idea as to what I may be doing wrong? Thanks!

Hi Connor,

It looks like you are using the HD (Heavy Duty) screws with the standard Kreg Jig Drill Guide. The Larger HD screws are meant to work with the Kreg Jig HD Drill Guide: http://www.kregtool.com/Kreg-Jig-HD-Prodview.html. The HD screws are much larger than the standard Kreg screws, so the HD Drill Guide has larger-diameter holes and a larger-diameter bit.

You can get screws for the regular Kreg Jig Drill Guide in 2-1/2" length in standard zinc for indoor use, or in stainless steel or our Blue-Kote finish for exterior use.

CONNOR , I agree with the KREG REP.  , It looks like you are trying to put HD screws into regular kreg holes  as they are much bigger !!! Also noticed  that your step collar was set wrong , the step on the bit should be inline with the 1 1/2 " mark on your base and the 1 1/2 " mark on your guide is a little high on the base!!!   I own the HD drill guide and if you are going to be joining a lot of 2 x 4 ,s  I would suggest getting the HD drill guide as I have done two projects lately and they do hold tight , sending two pics. that may help you !!!
