Kreg Owners' Community

I received a Kreg Jig Master System for Christmas and am sooo happy. I quickly found Kreg's web site and have been learning a lot.  A very nice site.

The "What kind of compressor should I get" thread brought to mind a question that I've wondered about for a long time, and instead of hijacking that thread I figured I'd post my first question here:

I bought a Porter Cable compressor & nailer set a while back. The nailer manuals say

"The preferred system would include a filter, a pressure regulator, and an automatic oiler located as close to the tool as possible (within 15 feet is ideal)."

I looked on-line figuring I'd see some kind of kit for this, but haven't seen one. Is this really needed? Do other people really use these?

I've just been putting the six drops of oil into the nailer connector before use and so far so good.

Also, have wondered ... Will the P-C pancake compressor power a larger framing nailer too.

Thanks!

No and Yes-

No, the pancake compressor has a regulator built into it. I assume you have two gauges on it? one for tank pressure and the other for line pressure. Water filter would be nice but if you drain the pancake after each use there should be no issues. You don't want to put an oiler on an air system if you EVER think you may want to spray finishes with it.  I have a water filter on my stationary compressor in the shop but nothing on my Porter Cable C2002 pancake.

Yes - you can run a big nailer with that compressor as long as it can get to 125 lbs or so. Most of my nailers run at 90# but the big Hitachi NR90 wants 120#. It may not run one rapid fire as my Hitachi will drop the pressure from 150# to 125#, the kick on pressure, in about 3 shots. but It will pretty much keep up after that.
