James,
thanks so much for the input, the image was really helpful. My son is 2 yrs old, and weighs about 34 pounds. So I think I'm gonna go all 2X4's, I will also incorporate the nuts, bolts and washers for stability. Thanks again, when I get my project finished i'll be sure to post pics.
Hey, Jens Jenson
I am a complete beginner, the kreg jig system has helped me make a lot of stuff i had no idea i could do. That being said I'm open to learning any new thing, I would totally welcome your plans, and any advise. By the way, I thought 2X4's would make a cool looking piece and it's pretty cheap.
I just added post for bed plans

Hi. I built a loft bed for my daughter about 3 years ago. I didn't have Kreg then, but screwed the plywood sides and ends, but used really thick bolts on main structure. I way over built, but do not have any fears of it falling down. Remember, the kid is small now, but sooner or later you will have other kids over and end up with 4 or 5 60 pound kids in it at the same time, with one jumping down the side like a monkey :-)
BTW we painted hers in orange, painted black strips, and painted a huge cat face on one end cut out with big cat ears. It turned out cute.
One thing of practical advice for you as the parent. Bed time kisses and making the bed can be a challenge. They go up a ladder with ease, but it hurts for us older folks. One thing I did at the time, which turned out to be a big help each night, is I used a jig saw to cut out heart shapes on the side plywood panel. I put 3 of them in there, each about 10 inches wide. That is how we kiss good night :-), thru the hearts.
peace,
jamie
Thanks Jamie.
I had thought about the whole height thing, however I had no idea how to aproach it, so the hearts idea is definately going to be considered. Thanks also for the heads up on the kids coming over situation, that would be a very good reason to overcompensate. Thanks for the input.
Really appreciated.
Elmer
Wow Ralph,

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
