James,

thanks so much for the input, the image was really helpful.  My son is 2 yrs old, and weighs about 34 pounds.  So I think I'm gonna go all 2X4's, I will also incorporate the nuts, bolts and washers for stability. Thanks again, when I get my project finished i'll be sure to post pics.

If you are interested in a loft bed and serious about it I have built many beds and I have 9 pages of plans for you if you want them,Let me no .   Im sorry but you dont need 2x4 for furniture

Hey, Jens Jenson

I am a complete beginner, the kreg jig system has helped me make a lot of stuff i had no idea i could do.  That being said I'm open to learning any new thing, I would totally welcome your plans, and any advise.  By the way, I thought 2X4's would make a cool looking piece and it's pretty cheap.

I agree with Elmer and I too would appreciate plans.  I am particularily looking for a rustic plan for our cabin on the lake and possibly a bunk bed instead of a loft bed.  Thanks for anything you can forward, Jens!
I just added a post to bed plans

I just added post for bed plans

Hi. I built a loft bed for my daughter about 3 years ago. I didn't have Kreg then, but screwed the plywood sides and ends, but used really thick bolts on main structure. I way over built, but do not have any fears of it falling down. Remember, the kid is small now, but sooner or later you will have other kids over and end up with 4 or 5 60 pound kids in it at the same time, with one jumping down the side like a monkey :-)

BTW we painted hers in orange, painted black strips, and painted a huge cat face on one end cut out with big cat ears. It turned out cute.

One thing of practical advice for you as the parent. Bed time kisses and making the bed can be a challenge. They go up a ladder with ease, but it hurts for us older folks. One thing I did at the time, which turned out to be a big help each night, is I used a jig saw to cut out heart shapes on the side plywood panel. I put 3 of them in there, each about 10 inches wide. That is how we kiss good night :-), thru the hearts.

peace,

jamie

Thanks Jamie.

I had thought about the whole height thing, however I had no idea how to aproach it, so the hearts idea is definately going to be considered. Thanks also for the heads up on the kids coming over situation, that would be a very good reason to overcompensate.  Thanks for the input.

                                                                                       Really appreciated.

You could use 4x4 and 2x1 for the frame adding bead board and deck post tops to dress in up also. I’ve attached a picture of the head board I made a few months ago.

Wow Ralph,

That piece looks really good, looks really intiquette. I appreciate the help very much. as I start building i'll be sure to post, I'm sure I'll incorporate a little bit from everyone, Thanks again to everyone, any more advice will be gladly accepted.

Does anybody know where I can get free plans for building a Mission style head board and foot board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
