Hi everyone. I have a simple question about gluing up a simple butcher-block project. I'm going to be gluing 14 pieces of 1x2 in a 17" length. In other words, I'll end up with a block that's 14"x17"x2". I'll probably be using Titebond III. My concern is, I'm not sure I can get the last piece covered, (in glue), before the first piece starts to set up. I'm in no rush. Should I just glue one piece at a time, as in, once per day? Or, can I assemble all 14 pieces, and them clamp them all up?

A solid final piece is critical as this will actually be an electric guitar body rather than a kitchen cutting board.

 (Don't ask.)  :-)

Ok, ok . . . you can ask.

Probably should 3 or 4 at a time have several groups of of 3 or then combine those.
Hi Artie - Glue up 3 or 4 at time, give you a chance to make sure everything is well covered and aligned. You don't need to wait a full day between glueups though, about 1glueup an hour should do it. Titebond hits 80% cure in 20 minutes (label says so anyway depends on moisture content in the wood) takes 24 hours for full cure.

Thanks guys. 3 or 4 it is. I'll post pics when she's all done.

Wow! This is actually more difficult than you might think. (At least, for a newbie.) The glue is like grease and the pieces want to slide around out of alignment. Even doing 3-at-a-time makes it hard to get proper alignment. I hope this turns out ok, but I now have greater respect for the "simple" butcher-block project.
