Hello my Kreg friends,
I have been off this forum for some time now, but I am back.
I have build a few children's 30" table and chairs - which I am very happy with the results.
But now I want to build a 60" round dining table - using the Kreg system for the top.
Instead of finding 1 1/2 inch wood, I thought I would use 1 inch (3/4") hardwood material for the top of the table and then construct another 58 inch round top to attach just below it for a nice look. After building each I thought I could attach these pieces Kreg end to Kreg end.
Any thoughts about this idea?
Will the Kreg system be good long-term using this procedure?
I look forward to your responses.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Hi Marty. I don't understand the "kreg end to kreg end" part so I'll just say if you're just edge joining the boards with PH screws then the answer is yes it will work. However,, by gluing those edge joints AND using the PH screws as clamps then you'll have,, in my opinion,, a much stronger piece that will last a lot longer.
I think rotating the tops 90* to each other is a great idea to prevent cupping or warping. Then mount the legs in line with the 60" top.
Just a side thought. I would consider two 60" tops rather than the one 58" & 60". I would rout a 45* chamfer on the lower piece. This is just how I'd like MY top to look. Your idea will be very nice as well.
Glen,
Thank you very much for your reply.
And yes, I had planned to use pocket holes and glue.
Once the two tops were completed I planned to rotate/attach them at 90 degrees as you also suggested.
My concern was warping/cupping. I think you answered my question.
Glen, would you mind attaching a picture of one of your completed tables. I would love to see it.
And thanks again for your response.
PS I had seen a picture of a beautiful round table in a magazine with the 60" round table top attached to a 58" table top - both tops routed round.
Hi Marty I made a 60'' round table using pocket hole joinery just go to my page and check out my pictures
Thank you Ray,
A couple of questions:
1) It looks like you doubled up on each pocket hole, correct?
2) What size of boards did you use for the table top?
3) Was it difficult to make the round edge band?
Thanks,
Marty

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
