"so I decided to make a table top out of cherry wood 5/4 thickness, can I use the kreg jig for this? If so what the heck would settings be."

Yes, I have done something similar.  I just used the standard 3/4" settings and 1.25" screws on the bottom, this gives you plenty of wood between the screws and the surface you will be planning and sanding. The key thing is to join the edges to get really tight joinery.

I use 3/4" jig set up and 1.5" screws.

Your settings should match the true thickness of your wood being joined. Assuming your true thickness is 1" you would set your jig to that and use 1 1/2" screws, or 1 1/4" screws if you expect to do lots of sanding or planning.

PS. Cherry is a hardwood so don't forget to use Fine thread screws
