Always have had a problem finding a filler that will take stain (for pocket holes, for example). I used a product for the first time today- Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler Max- and stained over it. Best that I have found. I had to touch up a little over the pocket holes but on the finished product you couldn't see the filler unless you were really looking for it. Comes in a square plastic tub. THANKs Tom. I plan on getting the Elmers carpenters Wood filler Max and try it. But i havent been able to finf it at our Menards store they had Elmers but not the Max .. Cecil
Thanks. I used it last on cedar and with a lighter stain over it, it worked fine. The sawdust and glue is an old stand by but sometimes a hassle. I was looking for a filler that works the best and the Elmer's works better than anything else I've used that was pre-packaged.
It depends on the type of wood you are trying to use this product with. I was using yellow pine and did not have very good results, a darker colored wood probably would have been ok. I ended up making my own filler -- sawdust and a little bit of glue -- stain stuck to it and it was only noticeable if you looked pretty close.
