The Breadbox

This project takes one back to the old farmhouse and the smell of fresh baked bread. Perhaps, these days it is more functional as a laptop or appliance garage. The roll-top or tambour slides smoothly in circular grooves cut into the side panels. The breadbox dimensions measure 21"L x 14-3/4"W x 10-1/4"H. The food safe finish is completely edible and will not contaminate stored bread with any odour. In other words, the finish does not contain any VOC"s (Volatile Organic Compounds).

Hi Al,

If you intend to build the breadbox with the tambours you will need the special cutters from Amana to cut the tambours (Roll-Top). The cutters include a set of plans to build the breadbox. There are a few mistakes in the plans, but if you contact me after you get them, i"ll point out the mistakes. This link should help: http://www.toolstoday.com/c-452-tambour-router-bits.aspx

Hope this helps.

I purchased a special set of  cutters from Amana tools to cut the tambour or roll top. They are for cutting tambours without a cloth backing and interlock. I make all my projects from recycled hardwood flooring that I get from installers from commmercial jobs.

That's a cool bread box, how or where do you get the wood for the slide.
