Jim I did not really have a plan as such.  I used an article in Woodsmith Magazine for an "inspiration" and sort of a guide to the size and proportion of the individual book cases.  I first made the four face frames of the cabinets to be sure the finished cabinets would actually fit my available space.  With some minor trimming of the horizontal face frame parts (the "rails"), it all looked like a great fit.  Since the face frames were put together with Kreg screw joints, it was easy to take apart and fine tune everything to exactly fit.  All the parts for one case sides, top, bottom and shelves are cut from one 3/4" plywood sheet and the face frames and door parts are made from 2" poplar face frame stock.
