People use this cypress for outdoor wood projects around here in South LA as an upgrade from treated pine.  This is my first project using Cypress.  Plus,  I built it for a relative, so its not sitting in my back yard to comment on its durability.  It is very easy to work with in some respects as it appears softer than pine.  A negative is how fibrous it is in some areas,  making sanding a trial and error process.  Using a lower grit than 100 just tears out fibers, rather than smoothing it down.  Another negative is the hit and miss supply issue, you just have to call around and wait and see what you can get.    Lastly, its 2$ / board ft, so about 2 times the cost of treated pine.

This project turned out very nice. How does Cypress hold up outside? Is cypress easy to work with? It's not readily available up north.
