2" X 4" stock

Hi - it's not clear to me what settings I should be using for 2" X 4" stock. I tried a few with limited success but wondered what others are doing.

Maybe I'm being thick here - but I don't see anything past 1 1/2" settings on either - what am I missing? I ended up doing it (after a close call drilling a tiny bit in to the jig itself) by going 3/4" and 3/4" on both but it seems like I could do better.

To drill into 2X4's you will need to set your jig up for 1 1/2" settings. This is because a 2X4 is actually 1 1/2" X 3 1/2". Once your holes are drilled you will need to use 2 1/2" screws to fasten your joint together.

yeah it's the same "new math" I ended up doing. don't know what i was thinking and didn't tighten down the collar on the bit and drilled a teensy bit in to my jig! (oops)

Will that work if the joint is beveled to 45 degrees?

You are not alone - I have one dimple at the bottom of the left hole and I managed to completely drill through the base below the right hole - double Oops. I was watching a video of someone's set up and I noticed that he had a note to himself - in big black magic marker - on the table top - Remember to check the setting - or words to that effect.

Well i just ended up dropping the ceiling in my guest bathroom from 10' to 8' which makes the space look a TON nicer - before it looked skinny and tall and awkward.

Anyways - all of the 2" X 4" in the ceiling are held together with kreg joints - before this thing I would have toe-nailed them.

With the kreg joints I can literally walk on the 2 X 4s in the crawl space and I am 6' 3" and 250 lbs! I would have been very hesitant to to that with toenailed joints. I may never toe nail again!
