Kreg Owners' Community

After months of reading, browsing various sites including here and YouTube, I finally decided to tackle this bookshelf for my wife's office.  I built some racks made of 2x4's that actually took majority of Saturday and decided to build the bookshelf today.

Lowe's & Home Depot unfortunately did not have the pine boards I wanted, mostly were just disastrous and was able to get relatively great quality at a local lumber yard.

The main tools used were:
- Milwaukee 7-1/2" circular saw
- Kreg Jig (master system)
- Kreg right angle clamp x2
- Kreg clamp
- Miscellaneous clamps
- Dewalt cordless drill
- Dewalt orbital sander

95% of material were pine boards in 3/4" thickness with luan plywood board on the back.  Kreg's coarse 1-1/4" screw worked just fine.

The space is limited where I live so everything had to be done in the open (not to mention the -1°F windchill today yay).  Started at 7AM and completed about 4PM.  The dimensions are a bit odd but wanted to fit between the wall that's indented.

Overall I'm satisfied.  I'm a newbie at this so it wasn't measure twice cut once deal; more like measure 10 times and pray everything will be straight.  I also had to make a jig for the circular saw as the lumber yard didn't have 1x2's and had to rip a wider board.  A lot of newbie mistakes but was able to learn a lot.  Definitely more confident in building more shelving and trying something new.

One thing though, Kreg's right angle clamps made things so much easier!  It helps tremendously in terms of being able to have that second hand and have everything flush.  Just the Kreg system alone is a must have...

gret job my friend

Hi James,

The shelves are 43.5" wide per bookshelf and held only on the sides with four Kreg screws on each side.  I used 1-1/2" finishing nail for the face frame.  Honestly the face frame could probably use more nails as I noticed some areas flexed.

She'll be putting mostly lightweight clothing products that probably won't go over 5 lbs so I'm assuming I won't have to worry in long term?

Thank you for everyone's compliments.  Still learning!

1. How long are the shelves?

2. Are the shelves screwed into the face frame for added support or just into the sides? This question is based on how much weight the shelves will be holding.

If just screwed into the sides you may need to add some support in the middle if weight is involved.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
