Yes, I know what you mean about poplar. I typically look for boards with the least amount/none of the greenish coloring on them. Thanks for the staining tip. I'll save it with my staining information. I am still interested in where you acquired the music included in your video. I run a website for a retirement community and I am always looking for non copyrighted music to add to the videos [usually a collection of images] for that site.

Thanks! You can download the plans at http://chiefsshop.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/chiefsshopsimplebench....

When staining poplar the most important thing is board selection - don't be afraid to sift through MANY boards to find consistent color and grain. With this project I didn't use a conditioner, but in most cases it helps with a consistent absorption. I also rub the stain in with a cloth, vs. brushing it on (except in tight spaces). I don't let stain sit long on poplar. Then poly and wax - I think wax is the best last step you can add to any stained project.

Very well done video. Where did you get the music? Any rate it makes me want to go make one. I would like to know when you publish the plans even though I have a kitchen storage bench I must do first. I didn't think it was possible to get such a good finish as you did with Poplar. I have always been told it has to be painted and believed it up to now. - Dick

Pantry slides for heavy application

Recently purchased two 96" tall pantry cabinets that are 23" deep that only came with two adjustable shelves and two fixed, (one at about 55" and one at the very bottom).  Shelf holes in the walls are drilled 2" O.C.  Like most store-bought…Continue

Miter Saw Recommendation 1 Reply

I’m looking to upgrade my miter saw. I’m willing to invest a good amount of money to get one with the precision pocket hole joinery requires. Would anyone like to offer a recommended model?

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
