I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…

The collector is the plastic top on the garbage can so when you run hose to it and run 2nd from it to dust collector. It takes all heavy materials and shoots the stuff to can and finer stuff gets to bag.It is a must for planners where without it I was getting lots of heavy stuff in the impellers and slowed everything down,Not now
Here's the deal.....three ways to go, depending on your budget:
1. Porter-Cable 690 Router (1.75 hp)- fixed speed approx. $136, speed control for that router - $48, JessEm Rout-R-Plate - $60.00. Template for hole in router table top - $25.
2. Porter-Cable 891 Router (2.25 hp) - variable speed $275, JessEm Rout-R-Plate - $60.00. Template for hole in router table top - $25.
3. Porter-Cable 7518 Router (3.25 hp) motor only - $300, JessEm Mast-R-Lift - $250. Template for hole in router table top - $25.
If you're going to do heavy duty routing, #3 is the way to go.
Router Bits - Whiteside (http://www.whitesiderouterbits.com), Amana (www.amanatools.com, Freud (http://www.freudtools.com).
Hope that this helps.
What brand of router bits would you recommend and where do I get them?
The plans for this router station can be purchased from www.newyankee.com for only $9.95. There is also a package that includes a DVD for $24.95. Do you currently have a router, if so, what brand and model is it? If you already own one, you will need to purchase either a router plate or a router lift.
In my setup, I have a Porter-Cable 7518 (3.25 hp) router and a JessEm Master Lift. Both of these tools are extremely well constructed. JessEm also makes available a template that allows you to rout out the space for the plate....well worth the purchase price.
