Leroy , I have used dowels , biscuits and now Kreg screws to join boards over the past 20 + years ! I would first run the edges through my jointer to get them square and straight to get a good mateing surface ! You can use the biscuits to aline the boards and keep them flat !!! And if you use the Kreg screws on the bottom side , they should hold the boards tight enough to remove the clamps and take a damp rag to wipe off the excess glue , then you can take a pad sander over both sides of the board to clean it up , hope this is helpful , JIM!!
