Very nice swing what kind of wood did you use? To help from sanding all those plugs I would use a surface planer I use one and it saves a lot of sanding time.Also you can take off a very little at a time some you don't damage or pop out a plug.

Thanks for that info! We have a Dremel but I lost the battery some time ago while cleaning out a closet. I think I may try finding a replacement. My husband used it way more than I did so I may try to familiarize myself with it now that I know what attachment to look for.

Try using the Dremel MultiTool (about $90.00 but worth it)with the MM450 wood & drywall attachment. It will cut the plugs flush with very little sanding.I use and it's great.The Dremel is cheaper than the Rockwell (about $120.00).If you look at the attachments for the Rockwell they have a sorta rounded star shape to them.The problem is that they wear down and don't ocillate even though the attachment is still good.But the Dremel attachments have holes in them that fit over pins on the tool and don't wear out until the attachment is worn out.The Rockwell attachments cost twice as much as those for the Dremel.I'am not promoting any one of the tools just trying to save someone who is thinking of buying one of those tools some money. I wanted to note here on this picture... see the top rail that runs flat across the back? Originally it was supposed to span the entire length of the swing and cover the back vertical supports. But for some reason I measured once and cut once. This swing will go on a covered patio so I didn't think leaving the top ends exposed would matter too much. In the future, when/if I build more I will make it the full length and cover those ends.

maybe i'm just lazy, but i would probably have left the holes exposed (the holes are on the back, right?). looks great though

Kyle! That is a great idea. I found the video that shows that in action and I have much more hope for finishing now! I have an old router that I may set up permanently for this. I wonder if a rotozip would work.

Set up a router with a top bearing flush trim bit and set the depth to a few hairs shy of 3/4". Grab a piece of 3/4" stock or plywood and with the router base running half on the stock, run the bit of the router over each plug slowly, sliding the piece of stock and router as one unit. The bit should remove the majority of the plug excess, leaving a less intensive labor job with the sanding. Hope you understand my poorly explained concept. Good luck.
