Hello John, i used a plan from NewYankee.com. I bought rough sawn Swedish red deal from my local supplier, i used 8''x 2'' for the top and seat planks, 4''x4'' for the seat supports and 4''x2'' for the diagonal braces and the cleats under the table top. I squeezed the planks for the top sung when i was assembling the table and then used a Bosch track saw to cut expansion joints between the boards afterwards. I actually have had to repeat this because the boards had nearly closed up tight again. If i was to build another picnic table i'd put shims between the boards and then snug them up with clamps prior to fixing the leg assembly to the underside of the top. I also would make the the table two inches higher as i'm six foot two in height.

That is a great looking table.  Have you got plans and cut lists for it?  It looks like 4x4, 2x8 and 2x10 stock was used - maybe even some 2x12?

Jig settings for 2 ¾ x 1 ½ boards with 30 degree miters?
