I now work at a Hospital but was in the trades for 10 years prior, and have fell into the role of the carpenter and was lucky enough to be able to build a shop on their budget. I built two 4' X 8' tables that slide together with a 45 deg joint to lock them together I used two layers of 3/4" MDF for the tops and built a frame out of 2X6's and 4x4 posts. The table has the Kreg jig set flush to the surface with a clamp track routered about 1 1/2" from the ouside edge on a corner. To get the clamps in I drilled a hole to one side of the track, this works good but needs to blown out to be kept clean. This table also serves as a material catch for the 10" Delta Table Saw, and holds the 10" Chop Saw that is bolted to a moveable work surface set flush to th saw about 7' long. The table has outlets spread around is controlled by a single switch to shut the whole table off. I am looking to add a cast router table leaf to the table saw that I saw in Rockler Magazine.

I also have a shop I'm working on at home, However my budget and time is much more limited there. I have a wife three kids (4, 2, and 4 months), and a big house. To add to the mix I work 3rd shift 8 days in a row every other week.

Rob - the bench vise is from Harbor Freight-price cheap! One problem with its cheapness....the chrome on the hand begins to scrape off as you use it and the chips cut like a razor! After getting cut several times, I just worked it until all of the coating was off. As I make improvements to my shop and the table, I expect to invest in a really good vise.

The oak nosing (edge board) needs to be secured to both edges of the MDF, otherwise, it would "rock". Also, the clamp trak was an after-thought once I had built the table.

I initially used plastic or rubber casters (cheap ones from guess where?). They did not work. I replaced them with steel casters from Lowes. They do not lock, but, the table is quite heavy, especially, once everything is stored in it. It doesn't budge without a pretty good effort.

I'm looking for a bench vise for my tabe and was wondering where you got yours and how much it costs. I like your table but was wondering why you didn't continue your beveled edge board by your clamp track. I was also wondering if this is on wheels and do they lock?
