I completed the project over the course of a few weekends. Cutting and attaching the top only took only a few hours though. I removed the old top to the clamp table first as well as the clamping hardware. So all that was left was just the top rails that the original surface used to slide across on. I then used remnants from the maple top to create rails that straddled the original metal rails in order to raise the surface height. I drilled holes through both the top and the wooden rails and then bolted through into the metal rails to secure the surfaces together. The surface is only held in place by 4 carriage bolts but they seem to do the trick. I tested by putting my 270 lbs worth of weight on it and tried to rack it and there was no significant movement that worried me.
I have 2 of those maple tops already, been looking for the right project for them. How long to complete this setup?

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
