Thanks Rita!  Yes, two dogs are currently using it.  (Only on of them is handicapped.)

I guess any dog with carbide spikes on his feet would eat Muttluks slippers for breakfast!

Rita,

My dog is spoiled.

I believe he would prefer "carbide spiked" footwear---

he frequently looks at my carbide spiked traction wear.

Muttluks Woof Walkers, that I found, feature "leather" soles---

leather is slipper on ice.

Ken,  mukluks makes traction wear for canines.  Not sure how well the animals love the addition of the added footwear they are designed to give the added traction as well as protect from the elements,

This is a very cute and useful piece! In addition to the skid resistant tape there is also a textured paint that can be applied for outdoor use.  I have a family member use it to repaint a fishing pier at his home.  Has your canine family member had the opportunity to try it out yet?

John,

This gives me an idea---I need to come up with ice cleats, for my dog, as we take walks on iced paths and ponds, during the winter.

Thank you both.  Your comments and experience are quite valid and I'll "upgrade" it shortly.  Thanks again!

I agree with Ken.  I had a large German Shepherd that was handicapped after spinal surgery.  I need to build him a ramp.  I used indoor/out door carpet of which I needed to use as the dogs toenails were able to dig into the carpet for grip and avoid slipping.  I attached it very tight at the top and secured it firmly at the top and bottom using screws and flat washers.  It remained flat and when it became dirty from mud I just hosed it off or installed another piece.

The suggestions by Ken are good suggestions to solve your problem as we know dogs do need additional traction when handicapped .  Your ramp if very nice looking with a very eye appealing like the Kreg Rep stated, "lucky Dog".

OK, then I may apply the strips and then give it a coat of paint to match. Thanks!

John,

I don't think sand will suffice on a sloped surface.

The material I made reference to, is available in roll form, 4-6" wide.

(Gray in color to closely match the paint).

It can be easily cut, with scissors or utility knife, to the desired length and wide.

The backing has a peel off liner, and weather resistant adhesive.

I've used this material on steps, vehicle bumpers, trailers, and the like.

Very effective.

I'd cut the strip width, to cover the flat area of each slat.

Leaving openings between slats to allow water drippage and small debris to fall thru.

I never thought of it, but that would have been a great idea!  The "ridges" of the ramp was my thought of a way to help with footing.  I might could still do that.  I wonder if sand sprinkled on wet paint would stick?  If so, I could simply add a coat of paint and try it while wet.
