Love it. Great looking and sleek floating shelf. Great design, very nice combo of paint with the natural finish and it matches the area. Love the drawer. Great work Alex!

Must be a magicians trick, where are the wires? :)

Very nice shelf and drawer!

Excellent -- thanks a bunch, Alex.  I love how your finish turned out and I have a project that I think I may try to copy it on -- I'll post a picture.  Thanks again -- happy sawdust-making to you.

Yeah, fantastic stuff...

I live in South Africa so I am not sure of you get the same products but I use the Woodline range of AC paints from Chemspec

Ahhh, the Perfect IT -- so it does work.  Awesome, thanks.  What kind of paint is the white base coat?

Comment by Alex Shiells on August 23, 2013 at 2:57pm

Hi Russ,

I used MDF sheet for the white parts. So here is the whole process

1. Seal with a MDF sealer

2. Sand 220 grit

3. Spray 2 x primer

4. Sand 400 grit

5. Spray base coat x2 heavy (heave does not mean dripping)

6. Sand 800

7. Spray base coat

8. Sand 1200

9. Polish with 3M Perfect IT compound.

I did maybe go over board for most people but I like that every single person that walks past the shelf needs to run their hand on it it is so smooth and shiny.

Nice work.  The design is great -- leaves space for shoes underneath and the drawer keeps the clutter tucked away, preserving the clean contemporary look of the entryway.  I have to ask -- can you describe the white finish, i.e. what it is and how you did it?  Thanks!
