My first design was 24" but due to depth issues for the lateral file cabinet and the computer cabinet I increased the depth to 26 1/2". None of my cabinets are prebuilt.
The top pieces are butt jointed together with pocket screws. I also add a 2 1/2" wide strip below the joint. I used no glue in either application. I am still considering adding some additional support under the joint, angled, connecting it to the wall because my kids like to sit on the desk.
The plywood I used was AC grade for Home Depot ($24 a sheet).
Great looking desk and cabinet!
How deep did you build the cabinets. I'm working on a plan for my computer room that includes your elements and I want to incorporate some pre-built cabinetry. I will want to trim off some depth from the cabinet, since I don't need to have more that about 20-22".
Where you spliced the top, it looks like you used about a 4-5 inch piece of plywood. Is that enough support, or would 10-12 inches width (glued and screwed) be preferred for more support.
What kind of plywood did you use on this project?

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
