This started out as a common plywood box that I made from some offcuts.
Didn't have any particular use in mind.
Then I decided to veneer the sides, so I used some Silky Oak and another piece that I was not sure of the specis.
As I intend to cut it open I made the veneer join on the intended cut line.
Not being content with that I then decided to do some chain effect inlay.
Well it took me about 3 days to eventually produce a satisfactory result.
I used a Brass inlay kit and a custom made template.
The production of the template took me most of the time. It took me some time to develop a way to produce accurately both the link and joiners so it looked representative of a real chain.
Once this was done it was it was then reasonably easy to use the template to prepare the inlay material and the base cut outs.
The finished product looked a bit boring so I then used Silky Oak again and added the circular petal pattern later.
Materials and tools used:
Lots of MDF, most went in the scrap bin! Rrouter, an Inlay Kit with its 3mm straight bit, router bushes, to cut out the outline and then a straight cutter to clean out the base area for the Veneer Inlay.
