Comment by Robert J Guidry Sr on May 30, 2010 at 10:38pm: Did you use sanding sealer, it helps keep the stain more uniform. Also you might try a gel stain if it is a soft wood or porious wood, it does not penitrate the pours like a penitrating stain and eliminates most of the dark spots, works well on end grain.

Comment by John A Cason II on May 30, 2010 at 7:05pm: thanks. not a big fan of the dark stain. had some issues with it being lighter in some spots...i resanded and tried again only to have the same effect. any ideas?
