Thanks for the info Ray,
Ah thats what gave it away as more than just a veneer !! But I realised later after my email and after I checked out your great work in detail again, the purple heart was not visible inside so that excluded laminating straight away.
Incedently Thats exactly how I did my Router trimmer box in 2010 and it looked OK as well.
So I posted it today with acknowledgments to your work.
I guess as the inlay material gets that thick its time to start looking at mitering, however from my experience with attempting to miter small stock I get out the disk sander then match sand to fit .
Bugger this miter box sawing for a lark !! Too much ends up in the waste box

Thanks for the kind remarks, I simply used a 1/2''straight router bit and routed a 1/2 groove all the way around the box 1/4'' deep then I planed a pc of purple heart down to 1/4'' and cut out 1/2'' strips on the table saw, the bands are 1''from the top and bottom, after I was done I realized I should have mitered the ends of the purple heart to hide the end grain
Hello Ray,
Nice work with the purple heart bands.
A question, I cannot see how thick the purple heart is in relation to the poplar.
It looks as though its sandwiched between the poplar as a laminate rather than an veneer type inlay.

Ray this is very nice. Really like the contrast between the two woods, it is a great pick. The double strip of the purpleheart is a great touch and makes it pop out at you. Nice top edge treatment as well and it has a better effect to its design that a round over edge. This is a very nice idea and designed to work well with its divided compartment. This would be a very nice Christmas gift and project to sell as gifts. As an idea, a person could use it to hold a bottle or two of nice wine with an assortment of cheese and crackers or other choice foods and then it double as a storage box after the wine is gone.
You have done a very nice job doing the inlays with tight and straight fitting of the inlay wood. The size of the inlay and the placements are very artistic. Thanks for posting this great piece of work.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
