Mobile Phone Charging Station and Organizer

Mobile Phone Charging Station and Organizer

I was looking for a desk organizer with a drawer to convert into a charging station for all the mobile devices that are accumulating in my home. A drawer was necessary to use the space behind the drawer for all the cables. I couldn't find anything I could modify so I decided to build my own.

I glued and screwed together 6" boards to one another using 1 1/4" Kreg Pocket Hole Screws to make 4 panels. I then customized the depth of the unit for what I needed. I used 1x3 boards for the drawer and back splash. The drawer was assembled with pocket hole screws, though I cut a rabbet instead of a dado to maximize the depth for the drawer bottom. I used some Polyethylene Film Tape on the drawer bottom and it slides like butter. The drawer depth leaves about 4" in back for the outlet strip, adapters and wires to be concealed. I decided to use a traditional dark walnut stain on the drawer front to provide some contrast. I also selected some oak boards with unique grain that I wanted to highlight. I used an old voltmeter knob for the drawer pull.

Assembly after finishing was also with pocket hole screws. The finished product conceals a large outlet strip, cables and USB and USB-C for all the chargers. The white chargers are standard speed. The black are fast chargers. The wireless chargers are also fast chargers.
