Thank you, I enjoy cutting them by hand. When I get some time I am going to try craving some onlays.

Ray, I have to agree with Al and Robert.  This is one fine example of wood working.  The craftsmanship is well executed and the design is very attractive.  I especially like the large dovetails as not only do they provide a very strong joint but they are very attractive.  Thank you for sharing such nice work.

Robert the web site for the wood is www.101woods.com, Fine Woodworking published by tauton press will have the article for craving onlays. I got that one at Home depot.

Al, Thank you for the kind words. Did not take time to reply this afternoon, had to build a boat with my brother.

4/4 White oak Quater sawn. I ordered it online, I will post the URL when I look up the book mark. The onlay I got at Home Depot. I just read an article on making your own carved. Fine woodwork magazine has the article but they charge.

Hello Raymond.

I can only agree with Al, its definitely a well made and fine Gift box.

May I ask for a description of the timbers and the supplier of the onlay you used.

I am still attempting to locate a supplier of onlays in Aust, but it seems like a item that few suppliers carry any more, oh well I shall keep looking.

Regards

Robert Brennan
