Garage Door Project

Mr Bill, my 78 year old father-in-law, and I decided to build two new garage doors for my old house. We figure we could do this for less than half the price of buying them

We used a router to create the overlap. We could have done it on the tablesaw, but the router was there and it even had the right size bit in it. As for the hardware, I bought 2 complete garage door hardware kits off the internet.

Randy, any special tools used? I saw a table saw - how did you make those overlaps? What about the hardware? Did you buy new hardware or use what was already there?

Depends, here in New England we have Nor'easters that rival hurricanes, yet they are snow instead of rain :-)

Great Job, you most live where there is no hurricanes.

We added the standard foam rubber seal at the bottom. This weekend we'll add the side seals and replace and paint the trim to complete the project.

Great to see this project done... Way to go, Randy. Very unique color... did not see that coming! ;) Did you put any sort of plastic seal on the bottom of the door?

There's another project off my honey-do-list!

Because we want the doors to match the existing motif for the house, we used an oil-based primer and have already added the first of two coats of the kelly green paint. Hopefully the hardware kits I ordered off the net will appear next week and I will have the hung by the next weekend. I will post the final pictures then.

Great project, Randy! Can't wait to see the finished result! What type of finish are you going to use?
