I have a portable base and it requires 3 screws to mount it. I have noticed that no matter what screws I use the jig will not set flush in the bottom of the base thus the jigs settings are off by the height of the screw head.

Can anyone suggest a solution without modifying the base?

I had considered counter sinking the holes, but I thought I would come here first before I did anything.

Thanks

Joseph,

The Portable Drill Guide Base is meant to be used portably and clamped on to your material. It is not meant to be mounted. The three holes on the bottom of the base you are referring to are there from the molding process and are not to be used as mounting holes. For 1/2" material, the drill guide block will need to go all the way down to the bottom of the base to give you the correct positioning.  If you have any further questions on the use of this product, feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to go over it with you.

The enclosed instructions clearly states in step 2:  Prepare the Portable Base for use by  either screwing to your work surface or securing it to a Kreg face Clamp. The diagram shows three screws over the three holes. Can you please clarify this? The instruction card is marked Version 1. 6/2010.   Thanks Joe

Joseph,

I have checked with our Engineering Department to verify, and they informed me that you can use the base like the instructions say. However, in doing so you will not be able to use it for 1/2" and 5/8" settings. This is not noted in the current instructions. We are currently in the process of changing the instructions to note this for future versions. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. If you have any other questions please let us know.
