high speed on drill and slow on pressure on drill!!
What James said. Soft woods such as pine and cedar will tend to leave fibers on the exit side of the bit because there is nothing supporting them on the cut. Harder woods, including poplar will be a little bit cleaner but will still require sanding to remove stray fibers that are uncut with the bit.
I think James is right " high speed on drill and slow on pressure on drill"
