Hi Mike - Pocket screws don't seem to like regular angles very well. As far as screw length goes, you will likely need some test pieces and play with the depth stop and screw lengths. May help if you cut your angles with a Bird Mouth router bit instead of a saw. Check this out and see if that helps:

Hi Gary - I don't think they work very well for anything much under about 60*. Looked to me that putting the pocket on the edge with the short spur would give marginally more stock though. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
Interesting link though. May just make a couple of planters. Glue and pins should work fine with this approach.
