Kreg Owners' Community

I am wanting to build a Farmhouse Queen Bed off of one of Ana White's plans.

I would like to join the head board (which is a sandwiched set of 1x8's & 1x4's) to the 4x4 leg posts. Would the 2 1/2" Kreg screws be long enough ?, or do I need longer screws for attaching to the 4x4's ?. If so what do I need ?.

Relative newbie here to the Kreg system, and I'm hoping for some helpful advice. Below is a link to the plans so you can see what I'm trying to accomplish.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice !

Hi Jody. I would think ,without seeing the layout for joining everything, the 2 1/2 screws should be fine. Maybe try a test piece .1 1/4 should work for most everything else.
Hey Jody,

This bed was my very first project. You can find a picture on my page.

The 2 1/2 in screws are more than sufficient for joining that piece to the 4x4's. Just make sure that you set your drill part of the jig to 3/4 when you drill the hole in your 1x8's. Otherwise, your screws will be visible from the front. If your 1x8's are too close to the edge of the 4x4, 2 1/2 in screws may still show. Using a shorter screw won't rob you of anything. I think I used 1 1/4. You can get away with this because the structural strength of the design lies in the 4x4's, the 2x4, and the 2x6.

I have never been able to find screws longer than 2 1/2 in anyway. Not that it is a problem: I have never needed longer pocket hole screws.

All the best with your tool and project.
