I recently purchased the Kreg Precision Miter Gauge to replace the stock miter gauge that came with my table saw. It is fantastic!

As a retired engineer, I immediately saw a simple but very important improvement that you could make to it. When using the table saw, a woodworker is always changing set-ups. The miter jig will go on and off the table saw as its need requires and may be stored off the saw. The problem is that the brass "positive stop pin" is a loose part, is quite small and easily lost. It should be cable tied to the miter jig to prevent its loss when not in use.

I drilled a small hole through the stop pin and drilled a hole the diameter if the locating pin in the miter bar end near the vernier scale and run a piece of nylon coated cable through the pin and crimped it and tied the other end to the miter gauge. Now the pin cannot wander away when I'm not looking.

Other then the pin please tell us more on what you like and dislike. I have been look at the Kreg miter gauge vs the Incra? I'm leaning toward the Kreg as I already have other Kreg products.

I picked up one yesterday from Menards for 139.00. I put it together this morning, which went by easily in no time at all. It took a couple of try's before getting the miter slot/miter bar just right. But once done it glides very nice without any wiggel at all.

Set @ 0 on the miter gauge (90 degree's) I did three cross cut's back to back. Each came out perfectly square. Or as square as my square lets me know of. The real test will be next week when I cut a few frames for my wife. So far I really like it, it is well machined, has a good weight too it. My only real complaint is the use of nylon screws, I just don't see why they would want to waist time using nylon screws on such a nicly pice of equipment. Nor do I see how nylon screws will last the test of time....

Just study this myself keep us posted.
I have had one for two years now, and have had no problem with the stop pin. Mine fits tight. As long as you have one straight side and can fit the work piece on the table saw, you can square up the other three sides with no effort. The nylon screws do not mar sufaces that they tighten against, and can easily be replaced if necessary, mind you brass screws would minimize scuffing and marring but not eliminate it.

I did my first mitered corners using the Kreg Miter for a small table top. I am impressed, with only a quick mark on each board, and using the pinned 45 deg setting. I got nearly perfect cuts on each corner. And the one that was only very, very slightly off was my fault I a,m sure. I have to say I am very happy with this product. Does very exceptable cross cuts, as well as mitered cuts. And does it easily.

I seen a cross cut slead that can be used by any miter jig... I belive it is made by incra. That may be my next new TS toy to try out with this jig.
