That’s because the Universal Bench isn’t just another workbench. It’s a system of rails and adjustable-height legs, both made from thick, durable steel, that are available in multiple sizes. You should be able to cut the legs down if you'd like.

The "Universal" in Universal Bench comes from the fact that you can build multiple widths and depths and use the bench for many different purposes. There are two height ranges based on the legs, so the height isn't infinitely variable between the lowest setting (15 1/4") and the highest (35"). The shorter legs are adjustable from 15 1/4" to 21 1/4", and the taller legs are adjustable from 29" to 35".

When designing the bench we wanted to accommodate a range of low heights like you'd use for an assembly table, as well as a range of taller heights, like you'd use for a bench. That's why we developed two different leg sets, each with an adjustment range built in. A single leg design that would adjust from 15" to 35"  would be weaker and would pose challenges for attaching the upper and lower rails solidly. This does mean there's a gap between the two height ranges.

It just seems there is a HUGE gap between the two heights. In fact- the size of the gap is greater than the range of adjustability of each leg set.

Either way- I bought it and when it gets here I'm sure I'll be happy as a clam when I get it assembled and chop the top 4.25" off the legs!
