Hi, My name is Josh and I live in FL on the Space Coast. Have gotten into woodworking over the last few years. I have done a few projects, mostly using MDF and will be getting into my first "real" wood project here soon. Recently picked up a Kreg Jig Jr and have played around with it a little, but have not gotten to use it on a project yet. Looking forward to the time savings it should provide as my shop is in the garage and I have to share it with kids toys, bikes, the wife's van, etc...
My next project will be an entertainment center for our living room that I will make from red oak. I plan on taking plenty of pictures, some of which I will be sure to post here because it looks like that is what almost everyone is interested in. I am not sure of the finish that I will put on it yet as this is the thing I have no experience with, so hopefully I can get some good advice on here for stains/finishes.
Antoine I did not see your post with your pictures in photo gallery are they not there yet? I am working on same project.
Go to projects and under the sort by: choose alphabetical. go to page five and at the bottom, third one from the left you will see my entertainment center on the work bench unfinished. I will try to exchange the present photo with a completed one. It was photographed in stages.

Antoine, the ent center looks really nice. My TV already hangs on the wall, so I am going to build two side units to flank it, a base underneath, and a top case to run between the two side units.
What did you use for the finish? I am probably going to want to stain for a darker color. I have never stained/finished before, so I am a little nervous about that step. Hoping I can get some good tips on here though.
I used three coats of Minwax sand and sealer. Keep in mind that oak is porous wood. So, what I did was to stain the wood first and pure the sealer on sparingly and using a Bondo putty applicator, I squeegeed into the pores. after that I sprayed two more coats and let them dry for a couple days and come back with three coats of polyurethane. I used semi gloss. That was my preference for this piece. When doing a large job like this, it helps to stain and apply the sealer to the wood before cutting it into pieces and on the final coats spray the finish on.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
