So much to learn and when things crop up, this is my go to place for answers.  From time to time in a project or house hold repair, I have been required to drill a hole.   I am aware that there are hole saws, spade/butterfly bits and forstner bits.  How do you choose which type to use and what are the differences between them?

Long Drill Bits

Oftentimes referred to as "Aircraft drill bits".

These are available in 6" and 12" long versions.

These are especially useful when the standard length bits are just not long enough.

When you first get them, roll them on a flat surface to insure they're flat.

To correct any "bowed" bits, they can be hammered on a flat rigid steel surface, to straighten.

Be careful using the small dia bits, then can easily brake.

Do not apply excessive force when drilling.
The bits will bow/break.

There are a few longer ones available---intended for use in drilling thru deep sections, like for routing cabling and the like.

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
