i was making a picture frame, 3/4" stock 2" wide 45 degree angle
when i set up for the 3/4" the pocket hole either show thru the finished side or pokes thru into the glass rabbit
i ended up setting up for 1/2" and just used one pocket with 1" screw and glue
is there a better way to connect 45ed corners
thanks

Ron,

With angled cuts like you are doing there is a very fine line on what will and won't work. With the material that you are working with being 3/4" thick using the proper settings will leave you with a hole that takes up 2 1/4". Which as you have found out will cause the hole to show on the finished side. Probably your best bet in this situation is to set your jig up for 1/2" material and use a 1 1/4" screw. This way you will still get the strength that you need without leaving noticeable holes in your frames. Try it on some scrap pieces first but this should take care of your problem.
thanks dan
that's all i could figure too
it did seem to work but only had room for one screw
its still stronger than just a flat glue joint
Ron,

What you can do is put one screw from each side. This way you will still get the support of two screws. Sometimes with just one screw over time the joint can want to twist. With these two screws you will not have that problem.
