Euro hinges jig question

Hello, I purchased a while back the jig:

I would like to use it for a different purpose which is with a forstner 20mm bit. However the spec sheet does not mention the jig hole top diameter or the size of the bit shank and I cannot buy the correct bit or the correct collar.  Anybody tried this? thanks

I'm sorry to inform you that we do not recommend using other drill bits with our jig.  The bit was specifically designed to fit into the jig to support it while drilling.  If you were to use a collar to make up the difference, it may not offer the proper support to allow you to drill straight and could possibly damage the jig itself.

Not tried it but...

Typically the part that fits through the jig hole top varies in size according to the size of the bit, larger bits won't fit and smaller will need a sleeve. Bronze/brass bushings as used for bearings should fit if you can find the right sizes.

The shank that fits into the drill is 3/8 in mine that I am getting. The stop collar fitted up to the shoulder may not give you the correct depth of cut though.

I would use my plunge router and guide rail. I have the right adaptor though for the collet size and the guide rail indexes at 16mm intervals so it can easily make repeat holes.

Hello Brad,

What I meant is what size the bushing should be (not the collar, my mistake). I would assume that if I use another forstner bit with the same shank but just a 20mm head the jig should hold. It should really work easily because the kreg jig is supposed to work with door (sometimes they are hard maple) while I would use it only for ply. Another forum mentioned that the bit shank was 0.4449" which is more than 3/8.

On a second note I have a router but...I never used it. I am not sure what adaptor etc to go for. I do not have the bit (I have a  1/2 bit but not 20mm). As you can immagine I am trying to make an MFT table top. While I have some Festool tool (including the LR32 for the router), I do not have the Festool router that goes with this guide. I have a Ryobi (15 years old used once). It looks pretty solid compared to the new ones but...it is still a Ryobi. Do you have any suggestion about where and what to buy as a 20mm bit for the router? To drill/route dog holes the Kreg jig isn't going to work as it will only work around the edges and not making through holes.

I have the Kreg/Armor/Axminster hole system that is 19mm/0.75 and the bits that size are found everywhere. 20mm Bits are around and Google will help you find them.

Festool MFT spacing is 96mm and that would work with your LR32 just as it does with my Bosch. You may need to drill your LR32 base plate to fit the Ryobi.

I will be using one set of holes as a reference point, I need to work out if I use the centre of the bench or calculate from an edge. Either way you need to make sure your guide fence is square.

I saw the Auxminster. I am very tempted to buy it now that it is available in US. Do the holes and sell it on eBay. It is a very nice tool. With respect to my LR32, I use it with the track saw and I do not have any attachment for the router. The router did not come with any parallel guide do not sure I can do what you are suggesting. The holes on the LR32 are not round and other people tried to retrofit for a non Festool router but did not succeed.

If your track looks like this it is fairly easy to make a sled to run in the t-track.

Yes, it does but I could not find anything on the web that support the fact that I can use a non Festool router. Maybe I should try to find the attachment and build a plate for the router? On a second thought, if I buy the TSO jig, would my cordless drill work? I might need a corded drill.

Depends on your cordless drill, I know mine would work.

The guide traveller would fit your track that I have.

With a bit of work you could make the hole system work too and with any router that has mounting holes in the base.

Not sure I understand. The holes in the track guide are not round so a pin would not work. I need to creat a sort of organizer to slide it between the two t tracks on the right. I looked around but it seems that nobody has tried to do that. I order the Parf system today. I hope my drill works, otherwise I will get a corded one. Hard to find one to touch and feel because everything is cordless. It has to be light but powerful!!
