Kreg Owners' Community

I'm building a deck and have purchased the Deck Jig to help me with the deck boards, but I was also wondering if the Kreg Jig Jr - #R3 would work for putting together the railings, etc?  If so, I'm using a ChoiceDek composite - Which screws would you suggest for this material and job?

Chris, good question. I can't tell you much from a Kreg perspective other than that we haven't tested this type of application and can't verify the strength/safety of such a setup. In addition, many states and localities have laws and regulations dictating acceptable construction techniques for this type of application, and the Kreg Jig certainly hasn't been approved in this regard.

That being said, I know that there are many members here who have used the jig in these applications and might be able to give you some better advice from their own real-world experience. There are many here, the one that comes to mind first is Brian McNulty and some of his work: http://kregjig.ning.com/photo/albums/some-of-my-work

Good luck with your search... sorry I couldn't be more helpful to you at this point!
