Kreg Owners' Community

I'm a newbie in woodworking. Mostly a DIY guy who is now looking to build a table for my Primo Grill using the plans in this site: http://www.primogrillforum.com/images/Kens_Primo_XL_Table_Plans.pdf

I'm hoping to buy a Kreg Master to use for this project and subsequent projects. But first I want to make sure if Kreg can be used for this project -- My question is, as most of the wood for the above table plan call for joining 2X4 and 2X2, is there a way Kreg can handle these thickness? I read somewhere that the maximum thickness Kreg can be used for is 1.5". I hope someone in this forum can please help me with my question.

Sorry if this question has been posted before but I did search the forums here but couldn't find an answer.

Gary,

The standard dimensions of a "2X4" is 1 1/2 X 3 1/2. "2X4" is the rough dimension taken from the log. Drying and subsequent planing take it to the smaller dimension.

Yes, the Kreg Jig will handle 2X stock.

Doug,

It's a primogrill that I'm putting in there. Okay, I'll research on a good Boston Butt recipe and see if I can come up with anything good to eat. Thanks for the response.

Gary,

Welcome and good luck with your project.  You'll find the Kreg system is ideal for the PDF you listed.  The

instructions will be pretty self explanatory.  I would suggest you use the blue coated(outdoor)screws for

your project and in a coarse thread.  Amazon has great deals on larger volume of screws if you really get the

bug, and believe me, you will.

Your not planning on putting a "big green egg" in that table are you?  If so you have to invite the whole

Kreg community over for some smoked "Boston Butt" and cold ones.

Have a good one,

Doug

Hugh,

Thank you very much -- it's exactly the response I was looking for. YES!!! Now I'm a happy camper. :-)

I'm so excited to buy my new toy -- a new Kreg Master -- and equally excited to start my table project.

How hot will that kettle get. I dont think I would surround it with wood or you might have all kinds of burnt butt

It's a PrimoGrill, which is made out of thick ceramic -- it will hardly get too hot on the outside. Hundreds of PG owners have used and built their tables for their griller using the same plan so I think it should be safe enough, and more than good enough to handle a delicious and succulent Boston Butt ... and hopefully my butt don't get burnt in the process :-)
